Voxt Privacy & Data Flow

Voxt is local-first: when you choose local ASR or LLM channels, voice audio, transcripts, selected text, prompts, and enhancement results are processed on your Mac rather than uploaded to Voxt for model inference. If you enable a BYOK remote provider, the data needed for that step is sent to that provider under its policy. Website analytics is optional and consent-gated.

The short answer

Voxt is local-first: when you choose local ASR or LLM channels, voice audio, transcripts, selected text, prompts, and enhancement results are processed on your Mac rather than uploaded to Voxt for model inference. If you enable a BYOK remote provider, the data needed for that step is sent to that provider under its policy. Website analytics is optional and consent-gated.

Key takeaways

  • Local ASR and LLM channels keep the model step on your Mac.
  • BYOK remote channels send only the data needed for the enabled ASR or LLM step to the provider you choose.
  • Website GA4 loads only after analytics consent and receives product-measurement events, not audio or transcripts.
  • Accounts, support, downloads, billing, and security logs are separate from local voice processing.

Data flow by stage

StageLocal pathRemote / website path
Microphone and selected textCaptured by the macOS app for the workflow you start; local channels keep the content on the Mac for processing. If a remote ASR or LLM step is enabled, the required audio, text, selection, prompt, or context is sent to that provider.
ASR transcriptionRuns through the local ASR channel you configure, such as a local model or Apple system dictation.Runs through the remote ASR provider you configure with your own key; the provider's terms and retention rules apply.
Enhancement and translationA local LLM can clean, format, rewrite, translate, or transform the transcript on-device.A remote LLM can receive the transcript and the prompt/context required for the selected enhancement.
Insertion into the focused appVoxt uses macOS Accessibility permission to insert the result at the focused input; no Voxt server is required for that insertion step.Remote processing is optional and happens before insertion when you choose a remote model channel.
Website analyticsNo analytics script is loaded when analytics is declined or not configured. After consent, GA4 can receive page views and limited funnel/navigation events. Audio, transcripts, prompts, selected text, and API keys are excluded.

What stays separate

Voxt's website and account services are not the same data path as local voice processing.

Website and account data

Sign-in details, OAuth profile fields, feedback, technical logs, download counters, and billing records support the website and account experience. They are handled under the Privacy Policy.

Model-provider data

When you configure a remote ASR or LLM provider, that provider becomes part of the workflow. Review its current privacy, retention, and training terms before sending confidential material.

On-device settings and content

Dictionaries, App Branch rules, local model settings, voice content, and enhancement results are designed to remain on-device unless you choose a cloud-related feature or submit them to the website yourself.

How to choose a safer route

Use the smallest data path that matches the job and the sensitivity of the content.

For confidential dictation

Choose local ASR and local LLM channels, disable remote providers, and use the app's local workflow without submitting transcripts or screenshots to support.

For higher remote-model quality

Enable a BYOK provider only for the workflow that needs it. Keep provider keys private and check whether the provider stores requests or uses them for training.

For website measurement

Allow analytics only if you want to help measure page and product-navigation performance. Declining consent leaves the analytics script unloaded.

FAQ

Does Voxt upload my voice recordings by default?

No. Local-first workflows use local ASR and LLM channels on your Mac. A remote upload occurs only when you enable a remote ASR or LLM provider for the relevant step; that provider's policy then applies.

Does Voxt send transcripts to Google Analytics?

No. Consent-enabled GA4 receives limited page, download, sponsor, GitHub, FAQ, navigation, and authentication-funnel events. Voxt excludes audio, transcripts, selected text, prompts, enhancement results, payment details, and API keys from those events.

Can I use Voxt completely offline?

You can use local ASR and local LLM channels for an offline-capable voice workflow. Exact offline behavior depends on the channels and models installed on your Mac; remote providers, account features, and website analytics require network access.

Who receives data when I enable BYOK?

The remote ASR or LLM provider you configure receives the data required for that model step. Voxt does not turn that provider into a Voxt-hosted model service, so review the provider's current privacy and retention terms.
